Update on wrist progress

I had my return appt to the Ortho today. The cast is off! :-) I am surprised, pleasantly! It is still quite swollen which the dr said is normal considering the damage I did to it. It is also very sore and none of the muscles want to work, esp the thumb and wrist. I have lots of physical therapy to do (at home) and am still not able to use it much, so in some ways the hard part is just starting. I have a return appt in 2 weeks. From what I am reading, another 8 weeks is possible before normal use can be gradually started. Hoping for better! I am so very glad that the cast is off though - in fact I am off now to soak in the tub! Thank you for the continued prayers, we have seen lots of God's goodness through this.

Hot, hot, hot!

Our van thermometer read 103 yesterday as we were driving around. Super hot today too I hear! I am thankful that our a/c is holding up well despite the fact that we still haven't replaced the compressor.

Update on my arm

I was back to the ortho today for my elbow. I apparently also likely have a stress fracture at the top of my radius and torn muscles from overextending it (the muscles on the inside crease of elbow). He offered physical therapy to help the muscles relax and allow my arm to straighten, but I told him that I would do it myself. He said to work on it gently and within a week I should be able to straighten it.

Fun! Fun!

It is feeling much better than it was over the weekend, for that I am thankful!

Skating Accident

For those who don't know, I fell while roller skating w/the kids on Tue and broke my wrist.

Thank the Lord my ortho appt today went well, no major manipulation. He said I chipped the tip off my radius and that is part of the thumb movement, I also cracked one of the wrist bones (name?). He was concerned about my elbow also, that it may be broken or fractured - wasn't real happy with the x-rays from the other dr. We decided that we'd wait and see, if it doesn't improve we will reconsider more x-rays. My elbow is still quite painful and I have some soreness in my shoulder and ribs. I asked about an immobilizer rather than cast so that I could remove it for soaks and compresses but he said that it would be rally hard to keep my thumb still enough to allow the chipped radius to heal. I got a water-proof cast, dark blue to go with my denim skirts (despite my dd's pleads for pink :-) It goes from base of fingers up to just under elbow, also around all but tip of thumb. It does feel good to have it stabilized, he said to also wear the sling for the next week. The swelling is much better today. I am still doing the White Willow Bark, Homeopathic Muscle Relaxer, Vit C and Cal/Mag every 3 hours and Arnica200c several times a day. It really helps the pain and swelling. Also enjoying breaking my diet with half-n-half, Breyer's Ice cream and dark chocolate (purely for the calcium, magnesium and anti-depressants of course!). ;D

A friend sent a lasagna home with us for dinner and our church is providing meals tomorrow - Wednesday. My sis came and cleaned while we were gone today also! I went to work this morn and got payroll done so I plan to stay home 'til next Wed. Stopped by the library on the way home for some books and movies.

I go back in 4 weeks to see how it is healing.

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers!
